Uttarakhand, located at the foothills of the Himalayan mountain ranges, is largely a hilly State, sharing its boundaries with China (Tibet) in the north and Nepal in the east. The state has a diverse topography ranging from densely populated plains to remote and difficult to access mountainous terrains which face challenges of access and connectivity. The State has two Divisions (Garhwal and Kumaun) and 13 Districts, which can be grouped into three distinct geographical regions, the High mountain region, the Mid-mountain region and the Terai region. Out of the 13 districts, three are categorized as High Priority Districts.
VRIDDHI Focus Districts::Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal and Haridwar.
VRIDDHI Interventions: : VRIDDHI is implementing its Care around Birth Approach in 25 high case load delivery points in the three focus districts.
The methodology includes a series of activities by the team such as Training 188 Staff Nurses and Medical Officers, Onsite Guidance and Mentoring, Identification of specialists as champions, Facility level quality improvement have also been formed to resolve issues and overcome challenges. VRIDDHI team also conducts regular supportive supervision of delivery points in the three HPDs to highlight any gaps and provide a flow of information to the state and Government of India. VRIDDHI State RMNCH+A Unit (SRU) worked closely with the state government to roll out Block Level Implementation Strengthening Support (BLISS) Model which aims to improve coverage and quality of Antenatal Care services.
