National learning and sharing workshop on ‘Plugging the gaps’: Optimizing Intrapartum MNH care services’

Project VRIDDHI hosted a National level consultation meeting in collaboration with GoI on September 08, 2016. Two thematic discussions – ‘on service provider competency and skills critical to improving MNH outcomes’ and ‘improving, sustaining and scaling Quality of Care in Maternal and Newborn Health’ − helped focus on areas that required strengthening. The GoI delegation was led by Ms. Vandana Gurnani, Joint Secretary, RCH and Deputy Commissioners of Child Health and Maternal Health respectively. Representatives from USAID, JSI, and various agencies and organizations working in the RMNCH+A spectrum were also part of the delegation. The meeting emphasized the urgency of improving intrapartum care to accelerate progress in achieving SDGs. The Joint Secretary in her inaugural speech lauded the project’s efforts in the area of intrapartum care and felt there was a need to discuss systemic issues like capacity building and quality of care. Eminent panelists shared their experiences and views on the two themes and VRIDDHI used the opportunity to share knowledge gained and strategies implemented. The forum also provided scope for experience-sharing and exchanges of lessons learnt with other stakeholders. The VRIDDHI kiosk set up at the venue demonstrated the project’s mandate, activities and outputs.
